few hints and tips
Things to consider
when commissioning a handcrafted item which will make sure
it lives up to your expectations:
- what style is the rest of the decor in
the room/area where the piece will be situated? What type of feel are
you trying to create?
- what period/age is your house/office?
Are there any recurrent motifs or designs that you like?
- generally, what type of designs or style
don't you like? what do you like? if you're not sure it can help look
through some magazines and cut out things you like.
- what use do you want from this item?
what need is it fulfilling?
- who's going to be using it? for example
are there child safety issues to consider?
- what conditions will the piece be situated
in? for example iif it's going outside or in damp conditions like a
bathroom it will need specially treated. What flooring will it be sitting
on?
- discuss what you are looking for openly
with the person making your item - give honest feedback about what you
like and dislike. Don't be afraid to ask for changes at design stage.
We need to build a clear picture: so dont be afraid to tell us what
you don't like - as well as what you do!
- have an open mind about possibilities...we'll
suggest different things that we think will work well. The best pieces
are collaborative efforts.
